— Following the release of his Lex Records debut, Fly Anakin re-recruits legendary producer Madlib for the remix of his acclaimed single, “No Dough.”
Building on his debut studio album Frank released via Lex Records earlier this year, Richmond’s own Fly Anakin recruits Madlib for a new remix of the album track “No Dough.” Revisited by the pair of collaborators, the song features a refreshed recording of the original “No Dough” vocals over a brand new Madlib beat. The remix is part of Lex Records’ LEX-XX 20th Anniversary remix series which includes remixes by Thom Yorke, Boards of Canada, Actress, Danger Mouse, King Krule and others.
Featuring his widely-praised singles “Black Be The Source,” “No Dough,” “Ghost,” and “Sean Price,” Frank is a bold statement from Anakin as not only a technically-gifted rapper, but as a fully-realized artist and songwriter. The full length project experiments with expectation, finding Anakin drawing influence from the classic R&B and Soul his dad played for him at a formative age and crafting songs in that mold, while also delivering the same breakneck raps that he always has.
Released to high acclaim, Frank marks the latest demonstration of Anakin’s prolificacy ultimately landing the album on several Best Albums of the Year (so far) lists including Complex, HipHopDX, Paste, Uproxx, and others. Complex lauded the project as “one of the best straight-through listens” of 2022, while HipHopDX called him “one of the most fascinating artists in the genre.”
