Between Twitter feuds and doing shows in Europe, Freddie Gibbs has had an eventful week. However, he is steadily building hype for his upcoming album, Souls Sold Separately (SSS).
He released what appears to be its first single with “Ice Cream,” featuring his “Scottie Beam” collaborator, Rick Ross. The beat is produced by Kenny Beats and pays homage to Raekwon by sampling Earl Klugh’s “A Time for Love” — famously used in the landmark Wu-Tang Clan track, “Ice Cream.”
On “Ice Cream”, Freddie Gibbs uses a similar flow to his most recent single release, “Big Boss Rabbit.” The flow is sped up and greatly contrasts the style used on his most recent album, Alfredo. It is also a perfect example of Freddie’s versatility that separates him from most MC’s.
Gibbs also released a music video for the single, which continues to pay homage to Raekwon as he rides around with beautiful women wearing shirts with different ice cream flavors in an ice cream truck.
Freddie Gibbs stated that his album would most likely be released in June on an episode of The Bill Simmons Podcast. As his Space Rabbit Tour approaches, it is obvious that Gibbs has plans of continuing his rollout for SSS. You can find tickets for the Space Rabbit Tour here.
