— This past Valentine’s Day, Atlanta rapper and producer Alex Bond wrapped up his romance-centric series of projects with the release of his latest EP, Just For Her.
What initially started as a one-off release with 2021’s For Her has now evolved into a trilogy of Valentine’s Day projects. The latest EP, Just For Her — produced entirely by Alex Bond — features 4 new tracks all centered on love and relationships in one way or another. With a concise runtime coming in just over 11 minutes, Bond packs a ton of emotional depth and musical richness into this bite-sized project.
Throughout the EP, Alex Bond explores themes of love, lust, intimacy, and even emotional co-dependency. Deploying a combination of masterful lyricism and velvety croons over a sequence of entrancing production, Alex Bond breaks down the many complexities of romance in a way that listeners can undoubtedly relate to. Whether you’ve dealt with the object of your affection seeming to do nothing more than play ‘games’ or you’re coping with the immeasurable emotional longing associated with long distance relationships, Alex tackled it all.
If you’re looking for a standout song, it’s tough to find one seeing that every song is phenomenal in its own right. However, the third track, “Holdin’ On,” would be the song that I’d say best encapsulates the overall theme of the project. Here, Alex Bond exhibits the aforementioned complexities of love and romance as both feelings of profound passion and deep despair ooze from this record. Instead of simply expressing the obvious joy we get from romantic relationships, Bond expresses the fear, vulnerability, and unsureness that comes with an authentic connection. While usually involuntary, these conflicting feelings can be uniquely damaging.
From the production to the vocals to the bars to the subject matter, “Holdin’ On” is a timeless record that will surely put you in your feelings.
Just For Her is yet another showcasing of Alex Bond’s artistic prowess, as he continues to prove that he’s a special talent worthy of substantial recognition. His fearless vulnerability, thoughtful introspection, and artistic dexterity lends to his impactful subject matter making him a one-of-one talent.
