— Rooted in raw feeling and West Coast ease, Karri’s new single and video “Oakland Baby” featuring Isaiah Falls turns late-night introspection into signature melodic finesse.
The R&B cut finds Karri crooning over distorted vocals, “You just left your lashes at my place / promise that I’ll keep ’em somewhere safe / always give you every type of space,” letting his vulnerability and attention to detail shine. His current tourmate Isaiah Falls matches the mood with silky vocals, echoing Karri’s romantic musings and reflecting on his lady’s fiery Westside temperament. In the video, the two trade verses while posted up in the studio and under streetlights, locked into those same after-hours vibes. “Oakland Baby” is out now via Playing for Legacy (PFL).
“‘Oakland Baby’ came about when me, Jack Dine, and Lido were in the studio. Lido just started playing chords on the rhodes and it turned into this crazy song. Isaiah and I are really close, so we send each other songs all the time. I texted him the original demo. Then we linked up the same night and did the whole record together.” — Karri
