— Rapper Fly Anakin returns with the second chapter of his highly-anticipated Skinemaxxx project following the release of its first installment last month.
Fresh off of the release of the opening chapter of his Skinemaxxx project last month, Richmond’s own Fly Anakin announces the second half of the project, Skinemaxxx (Side B), out July 28th via Lex Records. Along with the announcement, Anakin flips the channel to reveal the first glimpse of Side B with his new single “Things Change” featuring London-based singer-songwriter Demae, who matches Anakin’s technical prowess with her own dynamic melodies adding another dimension to the track. The track’s visual accompaniment, directed by Spencer Young, is fittingly sultry, capturing a dream-like rainy night in London.
Skinemaxxx‘s opening side introduced fans to the immersive concept of the project, rooted in the nostalgia of flipping through the TV guide as a kid, catching your favorite cartoons, and stumbling onto the channels you shouldn’t be watching. Side B picks up that channel-surfing journey and maintains the quintessential tone of any Mutant Academy project, chock full of inside jokes and tongue-in-cheek skits and technically-proficient rapping with colorful production. The first installment of Skinemaxxx included singles like “Outsidigan’s Anthem,” and “Blicky Bop,” which challenged Anakin’s dexterity with a production style out of his comfort zone, showing an immersive new side to the artist that Pitchfork calls “the single best pure rapper in the scene.”
Fly Anakin is also currently co-headlining a tour with YUNGMORPHEUS having already visited Atlanta, Chicago, Brooklyn, and Massachussetts with 2 dates left in California.
