— Richmond, VA’s $ilkMoney returns to announce his new album Who Waters the Wilting Giving Tree Once the Leaves Dry Up and the Fruits No Longer Bear?, coming this Summer via Lex Records. His first solo material in three years, $ilk is also sharing the album’s lead single “NEVER TRUST A BITCH THA- *EXPLODES*”.
The new single finds the enigmatic rapper returning to assert his place as one of the most technically proficient and unique voices in rap with his penchant for elongated song titles that read like riddles, his irreverent sense of humor and breakneck flows that he rattles off effortlessly. On the new track, $ilk unpacks a relationship in turmoil that ends in an unpredictable betrayal. “NEVER TRUST A BITCH THA- *EXPLODES*” was produced by frequent collaborator Kahlil Blu and is accompanied by a new music video directed by Micaiah Carter (Pharrell, Moses Sumney, Megan Thee Stallion).
Inspired by author Shel Silverstein’s 1964 parable of generosity without the expectation of reciprocity, $ilkMoney’s new album explores that concept as only he could. Across 15 tracks, $ilk interrogates the Giving Tree motif in its relation to the music industry, through winding parables and metaphors of the life of an artist whose appreciation for his culture and craft doesn’t diminish in the face of its consumerization. The album was co-produced by $ilkMoney and frequent collaborator Kahlil Blu, with contributions from Mutant Academy producer Sycho Sid.
$ilkMoney first emerged onto the scene as a teenage rap phenom with unforgettable tracks like “P.Sherman (PS42WW$)” and “My Potna Dem”. In the time since, he’s solidified a sound that’s singularly intense, debaucherous and impeccably precise with a collection of critically acclaimed projects including his most recent 2022 full-length I Don’t Give a F**k About This Rap Shit, Imma Just Drop Until I Don’t Feel Like It Anymore, which was named Best New Music by Pitchfork in their review. The rapper has made a few select guest appearances since his last full length, on Noname’s Sundial alongside billy woods, on Pink Siifu & Fly Anakin’s beloved FlySiifu’s and most recently appearing on two tracks on Fly Anakin’s (The) Forever Dream.
